STONE COLUMN REPAIR AT HIGHBURY ENTRANCE

UPDATE on June 20 from Stephanie Mims - Co-chair of the Beautification Committee:

The stone column has been repaired as noted below.

READ BELOW FOR BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

You might notice as you drive by that the stone column on the East side of the Highbury entrance is leaning.  Our beautification committee (with input from the Board) has had it evaluated by professional stone masons and received several bids (and expert advice) on getting it repaired.

After an extensive review of the recommendations and prices quoted, we have accepted a bid from Matt Schultheis, Senior Project Manager at Brick and Stone Masters.  His recommendation is to redo the joint with a polyurethane which would allow for expansion and contraction which standard mortar would not.  He is fully licensed and his work carries a warranty on all labor and materials.  Work will commence within a month as the crack is becoming larger and risks collapsing the column.

ADDITIONAL REPAIRS TO STONEWORK

Bids to repair the stone columns that support our perimeter fencing along Cheek Sparger and Cummings as well as the Flower beds at the Cummings entrances have been received and presented to the Board for funding.  A vote was taken during the Board meeting on July 18, 2022.  Due to the critical need for repairs, the Board approved using monies from the Reserve Fund to pay for this project.  Brick and Stone Master of Roanoke was selected as the contractor and the cost is $8,864.  Work will begin in the next six to eight weeks.
